Every year as the vacation season comes around I am faced with the same quandary of a Christmas gift thought for my marriage partner. As he was growing up Christmas was a annoying time due to the quantity of alcoholic beverage his father consumed and the conflicts that this got between his mom and dad. When I was growing up Christmas was a joyful time loaded with family assemblies, tremendous food and gift giving. I desired to help produce greater holiday memories for my husband by beginning traditions of our own. One way I try to do this is to come up with a proper Christmas gift thought every year.
I think that gifts must be an item that someone wants but doesn’t necessarily demand. I do not believe that the vacation period is a time when you have to be practical with what you present to another individual. This thought began for me with my mom. When I grew up we didn’t have very much money. My mommy was always on a small budget to fit the standard requirements for our family, but Christmas period was perpetually made unique by the presents that she would present us. She was not wasteful in the Christmas gift thought that she gave each of us with, but the presents were always a luxury item rather than a practical item. When I was little this stood for extra doll garments, a necklace or bracelet or a nice figure to complete my collection of antique Goebel Madonna figurines. My hubby often received socks and underclothing or other basic clothing needs.
It is tough to find a Christmas gift thought for a man. My hubby does not use cologne or any piece of jewelry. He enjoys outdoor sports, but he purchases himself what he requires and his birthday is in the fall so I usually get him something for his outdoor hobbies at that time. A few years ago we started the custom of putting something in each other’s Christmas stocking all over the month of December. I found this to be a tremendous deal of playfulness because I would purchase special chocolates and other gourmet snack treats along with special bundles of java for him. There have been years where his brothers and friends have given me a good Christmas gift thought, but this year I have yet to guess of anything.
During my shopping trips I have noticed an item that will be different and great. I’ve purchased nice large bamboo wind chimes that made a great gift. He has given me lot of pretty pieces of jewelry packed within an animated music box and some other special presents through the years, so I need to stay to surprise him. Many of the things that are publicized on the season as special presents are not affordable. We have set spending limitations each year so that we do not end up paying off for Christmas presents into the summer months. The price is not what makes these presents really special, but rather the thoughts and spirit of love in which they are shown.
